Killzone Composer: Fans Seeking More Casual, Quicker Games
The beloved Sony franchise, Killzone, has been on hiatus for quite some time, leaving fans eager for any news on its potential return. In a recent interview with VideoGamer during the PlayStation: The Concert Tour, Killzone composer Joris de Man voiced his support for bringing the iconic series back to life. "I know that there have been petitions for it," de Man noted, reflecting the community's desire. He acknowledged the challenge, stating, "I think it's tricky because, I can't speak for Guerrilla or anything... I don't know if it will ever happen. I hope it will because I think it is quite an iconic franchise, but I also think it kind of has to take into account the sensitivities and the shift in, I guess, what people want because it is quite bleak in some ways."
When considering the potential revival of Killzone, de Man suggested that a remastered collection might be more appealing to fans than a completely new entry. "I think [a] remastered one would be successful, I don't know if a new game would be as much," he explained. He pointed out that the slower-paced, weightier gameplay of Killzone, especially evident in Killzone 2 with its notorious input lag on the PlayStation 3, might not align with the current trend towards more casual and quicker gaming experiences. The series is known for its dark, gritty visuals and atmosphere, which set it apart from faster-paced shooters like Call of Duty.
Despite the enthusiasm from fans and de Man, recent comments from Guerrilla Games to the Washington Post suggest that the studio has moved on to focus on the Horizon series. It's been over a decade since the release of Killzone Shadow Fall, and while the future of the franchise remains uncertain, the idea of reviving Killzone—or another of Sony's PlayStation shooter franchises—continues to excite a dedicated fanbase. With de Man's support, those hoping for a return can take comfort in knowing they have at least one more advocate in their corner.
