Kevin Conroy's Posthumous Role in Devil May Cry Anime Revealed by Netflix
Get ready to embark on an epic demon-hunting adventure as Netflix brings the iconic video game series "Devil May Cry" to life in an exhilarating new anime adaptation. Fans were treated to a tantalizing glimpse of what's to come with the release of a brand new trailer, setting the stage for what promises to be an unforgettable journey. Adding to the excitement is the posthumous involvement of the legendary voice actor Kevin Conroy, known for his iconic portrayal of Bruce Wayne and Batman in numerous animated projects over the years. Conroy lends his voice to the character VP Baines, a new addition to the Devil May Cry universe, whose voiceover can be heard at the start of the trailer.
Conroy's performance in the upcoming series follows his acclaimed posthumous role in "Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part 3" in July 2024. His involvement in Devil May Cry offers fans another opportunity to experience his remarkable talent following his passing in November 2022 at the age of 66. Joining Conroy in the series are Scout Taylor-Compton as Mary, Hoon Lee as White Rabbit, Chris Coppola as Enzo, and Johnny Yong Bosch, who voices the series' protagonist, Dante.
According to Netflix's official synopsis, the series follows Dante, an orphaned demon-hunter-for-hire, who finds himself unwittingly at the center of a sinister plot to open a portal between the human and demon realms. The fate of both worlds rests in his hands, setting the stage for an intense battle against the forces of darkness.
The series is under the creative guidance of producer Adi Shankar, who will serve as the showrunner. Shankar is renowned for his work as an executive producer on films such as the 2012 "Judge Dredd" reboot, "Killing Them Softly" starring Brad Pitt, and "The Voices" with Ryan Reynolds. Shankar is also attached to an adaptation of "Assassin’s Creed," although its release remains uncertain since its announcement in 2017.
Studio Mir, a respected South Korean studio with a portfolio that includes acclaimed projects like "The Legend of Korra" and "X-Men ‘97," will handle the production of the series. "Devil May Cry" is set to premiere on Netflix on April 3, 2025, promising fans an action-packed anime experience that honors the spirit of the beloved video game franchise.
