Jacksepticeye's Unannounced Soma Animated Show Falls Apart Unexpectedly
YouTuber Jacksepticeye, whose real name is Seán William McLoughlin, recently shared his disappointment in a video titled 'A Bad Month.' In this video, he revealed that he had been working on an animated show based on the survival horror sci-fi video game *Soma* for a year, only for the project to unexpectedly fall apart, leaving him "quite upset."
*Soma*, developed by Frictional Games, the creators of the *Amnesia* series, was released in 2015 to widespread critical acclaim. Jacksepticeye, a known fan of the game, streamed it extensively upon its release and often cites it as one of his top favorite video games of all time.
In his video, Jacksepticeye explained that the *Soma* animated show was a significant creative project he was passionate about. He had been in discussions with the developers for about a year and was on the verge of entering full production. However, the project abruptly collapsed when an unnamed party decided to take it "in a different direction." Jacksepticeye chose not to delve into the specifics, citing his emotional upset over the situation.
The cancellation of the *Soma* animated show significantly disrupted Jacksepticeye's plans for 2025. He had structured his year around the project, planning to focus less on uploading content and more on this creative endeavor. The sudden change left him questioning his priorities and future projects.
Following *Soma*, Frictional Games released two more titles in the *Amnesia* series: *Amnesia: Rebirth* in 2020 and *Amnesia: The Bunker* in 2023. In a statement after the release of *Amnesia: The Bunker*, Frictional's creative director Thomas Grip mentioned that the company aims to explore themes beyond horror, focusing on other emotional qualities and immersive experiences.
