GTA 6 Trailer 2: PS5, Xbox Release Confirmed, No PC Mention

With the release of the Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 2 and a significant update to its official website, all eyes were on the launch platforms accompanying the new release date of May 26, 2026. At the end of the trailer, we see the release date alongside the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, confirming that these consoles will be part of GTA 6's initial launch. Notably, Trailer 2 was captured on a PS5, specifically highlighting the PS5 rather than the PS5 Pro.

This omission aligns with Rockstar’s historical approach to game releases, but in the context of 2025 and 2026, it feels somewhat outdated. Given the increasing significance of the PC platform for the success of multiplatform games, the decision to exclude PC from the initial launch of GTA 6 could be seen as a missed opportunity or even a strategic error.

IGN posed this question to Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick in an interview in February. Zelnick hinted at GTA 6's eventual release on PC, saying, “So with Civ 7 it's available on console and PC and Switch right away. With regard to others in our lineup, we don't always go across all platforms simultaneously. Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms.”

GTA 6 is still set to launch on console only. Rockstar fans have noted the studio's historical reluctance to release other past games on PC day-and-date with console, as well as its fraught relationship with the modding community over the years. Despite this, many had hoped that a game as monumental as GTA 6 could mark a turning point in Rockstar's approach to PC gaming.

While big Rockstar titles eventually make their way to PC, the timing remains uncertain. If not May 2026, then when? Fall 2027? Early 2027? Or a full year later, in May 2027?

In December 2023, a former Rockstar developer attempted to explain why GTA 6 is coming to PC after its console release on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S. They urged PC gamers to give the studio the “benefit of the doubt” regarding its controversial launch plans.

The potential impact of skipping PC for GTA 6’s launch could be significant. Zelnick told IGN that the PC version of a multiplatform game can account for 40% of overall sales, or even more in certain cases.

Meanwhile, the absence of a Nintendo Switch 2 logo in GTA 6 Trailer 2 was not unexpected. Although we still don’t know the full capabilities of the Switch 2, it is set to receive CD Projekt’s Cyberpunk 2077. This had led some to hope that GTA 6, which is slated for the less powerful Xbox Series S, might also find its way to Nintendo’s next-gen console.
