Gameplay Revealed for Freedom Wars Remastered

Freedom Wars Remastered: Enhanced Gameplay and New Features Revealed

A new trailer for Freedom Wars Remastered showcases the game's revamped gameplay and control systems, offering a fresh look at this dystopian action RPG. Players will once again battle massive mechanical creatures, upgrade their equipment, and undertake challenging missions in a world ravaged by resource depletion.

This remastered edition boasts significant enhancements. Beyond upgraded visuals, the game features refined balance adjustments, a challenging new difficulty setting, and various other updated features. Freedom Wars Remastered launches January 10th on PS4, PS5, Switch, and PC.

Originally conceived as a response to Capcom's move of the Monster Hunter franchise to Nintendo consoles, Freedom Wars (initially a PS Vita exclusive) offers a similar gameplay loop: players fight colossal mechanical adversaries ("Abductors"), collect their parts, and upgrade their gear to tackle increasingly difficult encounters.

Bandai Namco's new trailer illustrates these mechanics. The story follows a "Sinner," condemned for the crime of being born, who must complete missions for their Panopticon (city-state) to serve their sentence. Missions range from civilian rescue operations and Abductor extermination to the capture of critical control systems. These can be tackled solo or cooperatively online.

Freedom Wars Remastered: Gameplay Improvements Detailed

The trailer highlights several key improvements. Graphics receive a significant boost, reaching 4K (2160p) resolution at 60 FPS on PS5 and PC. PS4 offers 1080p at 60 FPS, while the Switch version runs at 1080p, 30 FPS. Gameplay is noticeably faster than the original, thanks to streamlined design and new mechanics including increased movement speed and enhanced weapon attack cancellation.

Crafting and upgrading have been completely overhauled. A more intuitive interface and the ability to freely attach and detach modules are key enhancements. New module synthesis allows players to upgrade modules using resources obtained from rescued citizens. Finally, a new "Deadly Sinner" difficulty mode caters to experienced players, and all original customization DLC from the PS Vita version is included.
