Formovie Episode One: Hardware Reviewed - Projection Paradise?
At Droid Gamers, we often receive various tech gadgets for review, but a projector is a fresh addition. The Formovie Episode One caught our eye, especially with its promise of streaming mobile games onto a larger screen, making it a compelling piece of technology to explore.
Designed for those on a budget, the Episode One delivers on its promise, and more, despite a few drawbacks. Inside the box, you'll find the projector itself, a remote (batteries not included), a power cable, and a manual. While it may not have the heft of pricier models, its lightweight design—only three pounds—makes it highly portable, perfect for on-the-go use.
The connectivity options are somewhat limited, with just one USB-A port, one HDMI port, and a single audio jack. However, considering the cost, this should suffice for most users.
In terms of performance, the Episode One holds its own for the price point. With 150 ISO lumens, it's not the brightest projector available, and it did struggle under direct sunlight during our tests. However, it excelled in darker environments, which is expected and appreciated. We found that movies, TV shows, and streamed games displayed clearly on the screen.
For optimal viewing, the projector needs to be placed at least 10 feet away from the screen. The built-in speaker, while functional, produces a tinny sound, suggesting that pairing it with an external speaker would enhance the audio experience.
The user interface of the Episode One is user-friendly and straightforward, outshining many pricier models in ease of setup and use. This simplicity is a major plus for budget-conscious consumers.
Overall, the Formovie Episode One is an excellent entry-level projector. It may not excel in any single area, but it's a reliable all-rounder that will meet the needs of most casual users.
