The much-anticipated live-action adaptation of Elden Ring is now in development, as confirmed by Bandai Namco Entertainment and the acclaimed American film company A24. Spearheaded by the renowned Alex Garland, known for his work on films like Ex Machina, Civil War, and Warfare, this project aims to capture the essence and thrill of the game.

The film will be produced by a powerhouse team including Peter Rice, Andrew Macdonald, and Allon Reich from DNA Films, alongside George R. R. Martin, the creator of A Song of Ice and Fire, and Vince Gerardis, a co-executive producer of Game of Thrones. While it's unclear if FromSoftware president and Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki will be involved, the project is already generating significant buzz.

Elden Ring Coming Off Strong This 2025

While the live-action movie may take some time to hit theaters, the Elden Ring video game franchise continues to thrive with new releases in 2025. Launched initially in 2022, Elden Ring quickly became one of the most popular games ever, selling over 13.4 million copies in just five weeks. By April 2025, the game had sold a staggering 30 million copies worldwide, a testament to its enduring appeal. This success was further highlighted by its collection of over 324 Game of the Year awards, making it one of the most decorated titles in video game history. The 2024 DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, also received widespread acclaim.

FromSoftware is not slowing down with the franchise, as 2025 sees the launch of two new titles. Elden Ring Nightreign, a co-op action game set in the realm of Limveld, invites players to become Nightfarers and stop the rise of the Nightlord. Featuring elements from the original game but tailored for a new multiplayer co-op experience, Nightreign is slated for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on May 30th.

Additionally, the Elden Ring Tarnished Edition will be available for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. This complete edition includes the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, four new armor sets, and a customization feature for the three Torrent the Spectral Steed variants. Although not a launch title for the new console, fans can look forward to exploring the Lands Between on the Switch 2 soon.
