DOOM Now Playable on Apple Devices via Lightning/HDMI Adapter
The DOOM community's passion for running the iconic game on unconventional platforms continues to captivate tech enthusiasts. Recently, a user known as NyanSatan achieved a remarkable feat by successfully running the classic shooter DOOM on Apple's Lightning/HDMI adapter. The adapter, equipped with its own firmware based on iOS and a processor with a frequency of up to 168 MHz, presented a unique challenge. NyanSatan accessed the firmware using a MacBook to transfer it, as the adapter itself lacks memory, demonstrating the community's ingenuity and dedication to pushing the boundaries of what's possible with DOOM.
In other DOOM news, the upcoming title, DOOM: The Dark Ages, is set to introduce significant enhancements aimed at making the game more accessible to a broader audience. Players will have the ability to adjust the aggression levels of demons within the game's settings. This customization extends beyond just enemy behavior; players can also modify damage output, projectile speeds, and even the game's tempo and parry timings. Executive producer Marty Stratton emphasized the studio's goal to ensure that DOOM: The Dark Ages offers a highly customizable experience, surpassing the options available in previous id Software projects.
Furthermore, Stratton reassured fans that understanding the narrative of DOOM: The Dark Ages is not contingent on having played its predecessor, DOOM: Eternal. This approach aims to make the game welcoming to newcomers while still offering depth for long-time fans of the series.
