Cyberpunk 2077’s Idris Elba Hopes For Cyberpunk Live-Action With Keanu Reeves
Idris Elba, the star of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, has expressed his enthusiasm for a potential live-action adaptation of the game, envisioning a project that would reunite him with Keanu Reeves. Dive deeper into Elba's vision and the latest updates on the Cyberpunk universe!
Cyberpunk 2077 Live-Action Would Be "Whoa."
Welcome Back To Night City
In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Idris Elba shared his excitement about the possibility of a live-action Cyberpunk 2077 film. This discussion took place ahead of his role reprise as Knuckles the Echidna in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, where he will also be joined by Keanu Reeves, who will portray Shadow the Hedgehog.
Elba's enthusiasm for a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action project was palpable when asked about reuniting with Reeves, who played the iconic Johnny Silverhand in the game. Elba responded, "Oh, man, that's a great question. I think if any film could do a live-action rendition, it could be [Cyberpunk 2077], and I think his character and my character together would be, ‘Whoa.’ So, let's speak that into existence."
Keanu Reeves brought the character of Johnny Silverhand to life in Cyberpunk 2077, while Elba portrayed Solomon Reed, an experienced FIA sleeper agent, in the game's 2023 DLC, Phantom Liberty.
The idea of a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action project isn't just a pipe dream. Variety reported in October 2023 that CD Projekt Red (CDPR), the creators of the game, are collaborating with Anonymous Content, the media company behind hits like True Detective and Mr. Robot, to bring this vision to life. Although a year has passed without further updates, the success of the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners animated series and the live-action adaptation of The Witcher 3, which has completed five seasons, suggests that a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action project is well within reach.
