"Coyote vs. Acme Film May Hit Theaters Yet"
Exciting news for fans of classic cartoons and cinema enthusiasts alike: Coyote vs. Acme, the Warner Bros. movie previously thought to be permanently shelved, may still make it to the big screen. According to Deadline, the Los Angeles-based independent film production and distribution company, Ketchup Entertainment, is currently deep in negotiations to acquire the film. While the deal is not yet finalized, a successful negotiation could lead to a theatrical release in 2026.
Coyote vs. Acme, announced in 2022, is inspired by a 1990 Ian Frazier New Yorker article of the same name. Co-written by James Gunn and featuring stars Will Forte and John Cena, the movie was initially slated for a mid-2023 release on Max. However, despite completing filming, it was unexpectedly shelved. Since then, a dedicated campaign to save the film has been actively pursued by fans and supporters.
Ketchup Entertainment has a history of rescuing films from the brink of oblivion. They recently saved another Warner Bros. project, The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, from a similar fate, ensuring its theatrical debut in the US. This film marks the first fully animated Looney Tunes movie to grace cinema screens, and according to IGN's review, it's a "laugh-out-loud riot."
Ketchup Entertainment's portfolio also includes notable releases such as Hellboy: The Crooked Man and the Robert Rodriguez thriller Hypnotic, starring Ben Affleck. Additionally, the company co-produced Michael Mann's 2023 Ferrari biopic, showcasing their commitment to diverse and high-quality cinematic content.
