Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Sales Hit 2 Million in 12 Days
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has achieved a remarkable milestone, selling 2 million copies within just 12 days of its release. This follows a strong launch where it sold 1 million copies in its first three days.
It's important to note that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 launched day one on Game Pass, alongside Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. This makes the sales achievement even more significant for French studio Sandfall Interactive and publisher Kepler Interactive.
"We've been amazed to see so many of you embark on this adventure," the developer shared on social media. "We've felt every step, every emotion, and every discovery right alongside you.
"To those just starting: welcome.
"Tomorrow awaits."
When Bethesda surprise-released The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered alongside the launch of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, many assumed one title would dominate. Instead, the market proved large enough for both major RPGs to find success.
Kepler Interactive reports that Oblivion's release did not negatively impact Clair Obscur. In fact, the renewed interest in the RPG genre sparked by Oblivion's launch may have benefited the newer title.
Matt Handrahan, Senior Portfolio Manager at Kepler Interactive, commented to The Game Business: "We were always aware that Expedition 33 had its own distinct identity. From my experience in the press, Western-style and Japanese-style RPGs traditionally attract different audiences. I know many players who enjoy Elder Scrolls games but not necessarily Final Fantasy, and vice versa.
"Furthermore, by our launch date, we had built significant momentum and felt confident in standing alongside Oblivion. Other factors, like our pricing and inclusion in Game Pass, meant we anticipated strong interest. We were confident, and the outcome exceeded our expectations. Proximity to Oblivion's launch didn't hurt us; if anything, it focused more attention on high-quality RPGs that week, getting everyone discussing the genre."
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has been so successful that it has even received praise from French President Macron. Before you dive in, be sure to check out our guide for key tips and information.
