The Bloodborne Remaster Hype: Fueled by Social Media
A Beloved Classic Deserves a Modern Update
Bloodborne, a critically lauded RPG released in 2015, enjoys enduring popularity. Many players yearn to revisit the gothic city of Yharnam on current-generation consoles. While there's no official announcement, recent posts on FromSoftware and PlayStation Italia's Instagram accounts featuring Bloodborne have reignited the fervor surrounding a potential remaster.
On August 24th, FromSoftware shared three images showcasing the game's title and the hashtag "#bloodborne." One image depicted Djura, a formidable hunter encountered in Old Yharnam. The others featured the player character exploring Yharnam's heart and the eerie Charnel Lane graveyards.
Although these posts might simply be a nostalgic throwback, dedicated Bloodborne fans on platforms like X (formerly Twitter) have meticulously analyzed every detail, searching for clues hinting at a remaster. Many feel teased by these seemingly innocuous posts, especially considering a similar post from PlayStation Italia on August 17th.
PlayStation Italia's post, translated, asked fans to identify their favorite iconic Bloodborne locations. The comments section overflowed with pleas for a Yharnam return, ranging from nostalgic reminiscing to humorous suggestions about a PC or modern console release.
The Hunt Continues: Bloodborne on Modern Platforms
Released exclusively for PS4 in 2015, Bloodborne has cultivated a fiercely loyal fanbase. Its critical acclaim and status as one of gaming's greatest titles have only fueled the desire for a sequel or, at the very least, a remaster.
Fans often cite the 2020 Demon's Souls remake (originally released in 2009) as a precedent for a potential Bloodborne revival. However, this hope is tempered by the lengthy wait for the Demon's Souls remake, leading to concerns about a similar delay for Bloodborne. With the game's tenth anniversary approaching, the anticipation is palpable.
In a February interview with Eurogamer, Bloodborne director Hidetaka Miyazaki acknowledged the potential advantages of remastering the game for modern hardware, stating that enhanced accessibility for a wider audience is a key consideration.
While Miyazaki's comments offer a spark of hope, the final decision rests not with FromSoftware. Unlike Elden Ring (which FromSoftware fully publishes), Bloodborne's publishing rights are held by Sony. Miyazaki has previously stated that he is not in a position to comment specifically on Bloodborne's future due to this.
Bloodborne's devoted community eagerly awaits a remaster. Despite its success, Sony has yet to expand its availability beyond the PS4. Whether the ongoing speculation will materialize remains to be seen.
