Crash Bandicoot 5 Allegedly Canceled After Studio Went Indie

News of a potentially shelved Crash Bandicoot 5 has surfaced, hinted at by former Toys For Bob concept artist, Nicholas Kole. Kole's revelation came during a July 12th X (formerly Twitter) post discussing another canceled project, "Project Dragon." While "Project Dragon" was clarified as a new IP developed with Phoenix Labs, not Spyro as initially speculated, Kole's comment about a never-released Crash Bandicoot 5 sparked significant fan disappointment.

"It is not Spyro, but some day folks will hear about the Crash 5 that never was and it’s gonna break hearts," Kole stated. His prediction proved accurate, with fans expressing considerable upset at the news.

The cancellation aligns with Toys For Bob's transition to an independent studio earlier this year, following Activision Blizzard's acquisition by Microsoft. While Toys For Bob is now collaborating with Microsoft Xbox for their upcoming independent title, details remain scarce.

The last mainline Crash Bandicoot game, Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time (2020), achieved over five million sales. Subsequent releases included Crash Bandicoot: On the Run! (2021) and Crash Team Rumble (2023), the latter ending live support in March 2024.

With Toys For Bob's newfound independence, the possibility of Crash Bandicoot 5 remains open, though its future and potential release date remain uncertain, leaving fans anxiously awaiting further information.
