Deciding whether to give Sargamis the Splinter of Eothas in Avowed is a pivotal early-game choice with significantly varying consequences. This guide details the outcomes of giving Sargamis the splinter.

What Happens When You Don't Give Sargamis the Splinter?

Refusing Sargamis the splinter initiates a battle. He's treated as a mini-boss, summoning spirit creatures and employing swift, powerful attacks. He's vulnerable to frost spells. Victory rewards you with the Last Light of Day mace, a unique weapon with health regeneration and fire damage enhancements.

Agreeing to give Sargamis the splinter presents multiple paths:

  • Persuade him to use the statue: This results in Sargamis' death and yields the Last Light of Day mace. Completing this action unlocks the "Get In The Statue, Envoy" achievement. Restarting the game after this action places you back at the point where Sargamis instructs you to enter the circle.
  • Offer yourself to the statue: This leads to another branching path, with the option to either proceed as instructed or leave the circle before activation, provoking Sargamis into combat.

Completing Dawntreader Without Killing Sargamis:

The optimal approach involves convincing Sargamis his plan is futile. This requires an Intellect stat of 4 or higher. Specific background choices, like Court Augur or Arcane Scholar, may offer unique dialogue options to achieve this. The key is to emphasize Eothas' absence and avoid suggesting a live soul transfer. After Sargamis abandons his plan, you can choose to either allow the voice to utilize the statue or destroy it yourself. Finally, speaking with Sargamis in his quarters completes the Dawntreader quest, rewarding you with more experience than combat or simply handing over the splinter.
