Tears of the Kingdom Finally Gets Cloud Backup

Nintendo has confirmed that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Switch 2 edition will indeed support cloud saves.

While we already knew the Nintendo Switch 2 would receive enhanced versions of several Switch 1 games, including Tears of the Kingdom, a recent disclaimer sparked concern among fans. As IGN reported last week, there were worries that certain titles, or at least this one, might not support Nintendo's cloud save feature as expected.

Initially, Nintendo's product pages for the Tears of the Kingdom Switch 2 version included the following notice: "Please note: this software does not support the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership’s Save Data Cloud backup feature."

Nintendo has since updated its website with additional details. While the Donkey Kong Bananza page has removed all references to cloud saves, the disclaimer on the Tears of the Kingdom page now reads: "Save data created in the second save data slot in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition cannot be transferred to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on Nintendo Switch."

The updated disclaimer should ease concerns for Switch 2 owners.

This implies players can transfer their original Switch saves to the new Switch 2 device, but not the other way around (thanks, Eurogamer).

The product page for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition now carries the same message, indicating a consistent save transfer policy.

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders recently opened, maintaining the $449.99 price point — and the process unfolded just as expected. For more details, visit IGN's Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
