New Zelda Game Unveiled: Play as Link or Zelda
Nintendo's upcoming title, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, set for a September release, offers a unique twist: it's Zelda's first starring role, but she won't be alone. Recent ESRB ratings reveal a surprising detail.
Zelda and Link: A Dual Protagonist Adventure
The ESRB listing confirms players will control both Zelda and Link. While the game centers on Zelda's quest to seal rifts across Hyrule and rescue Link, the inclusion of Link as a playable character adds an intriguing layer. The rating (E 10+) and the absence of microtransactions are also confirmed.
The description highlights Zelda's magic wand, used to summon creatures like wind-up knights and slime for combat, while Link utilizes his classic sword and arrows. Combat mechanics include fire-based attacks and enemies dissolving into mist upon defeat.
This marks a pivotal moment for the Zelda franchise, giving Princess Zelda her long-awaited protagonist spotlight. The game's popularity is evident, as it's become one of the most anticipated titles since its summer showcase announcement.
The extent of Link's playable sections remains unclear, however. The game's official release date is September 26, 2024.
Hyrule Edition Switch Lite: Pre-orders Open!
To coincide with the game's launch, Nintendo is releasing a special Hyrule Edition Switch Lite, available for pre-order now. This golden-colored console features the Hyrule crest and a Triforce symbol. While the game isn't included, it bundles a 12-month Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription for $49.99.
