WoW Patch 11.1 Unveils Two New Alliance Races

World of Warcraft Patch 11.1 introduces exhilarating new race types: Breakneck D.R.I.V.E. races and Skyrocket races utilizing Goblin jetpacks. These replace traditional Skyriding races within the new Undermine zone.

Undermine, the subterranean Goblin capital in Patch 11.1 (aptly titled "Undermined"), prohibits flying. Instead, players navigate using the D.R.I.V.E. system – customizable, high-speed vehicles surpassing even Skyriding in velocity. Breakneck races fully leverage the D.R.I.V.E. system's potential.

Complementing D.R.I.V.E. races are the innovative Skyrocket races. These utilize Goblin jetpacks for aerial maneuvering, offering a unique blend of flight mechanics. Unlike Steady flight, players cannot stop mid-air, but unlike Skyriding, they maintain momentum and altitude. Collecting rings increases speed, but reduces maneuverability, adding a layer of strategic challenge. Footage from the Public Test Realm (PTR) by WoW content creator MrGM showcases this dynamic gameplay.

Skyrocket and Breakneck Race Variety:

Undermine's no-fly policy eliminates Skyriding races. However, both Breakneck and Skyrocket races offer Bronze, Silver, and Gold achievement rewards for completion. Reverse versions of all races exist, though advanced or challenge courses are absent.

Player reception to Skyrocket races is currently mixed. Some anticipate the new experience, while others express concerns about the perceived stiffness and lack of responsiveness compared to Skyriding. With Patch 11.1 still under development (a February release is anticipated), further refinements are expected.
