Upcoming Sony-Published Game Drops PSN Requirement on PC
Lost Soul Aside's PC Release to Forgo PSN Account Linking
Lost Soul Aside, the highly anticipated Sony-published action RPG, will reportedly launch on PC in 2025 without the controversial PlayStation Network (PSN) account linking requirement. This significant change expands the game's potential market considerably, as PSN support is unavailable in over 100 countries.
Developed by UltiZeroGames, Lost Soul Aside emerged from PlayStation's China Hero Project. This Devil May Cry-inspired title, boasting "dynamic combat," has been in development for nearly nine years. While Sony funds and publishes the game for both PS5 and PC, the initial implementation of mandatory PSN linking for PC titles last year sparked significant player backlash.
The decision to omit PSN linking for Lost Soul Aside's PC version was seemingly confirmed after its Steam page went live. While initially listed as requiring a PSN account, the requirement was swiftly removed, as evidenced by SteamDB update history.
This marks only the second time Sony has reversed its PSN linking policy for a PC game, the first being Helldivers 2. This reversal suggests a potential shift in Sony's approach to PC releases, moving away from the seemingly inflexible mandate.
While the reasons remain unconfirmed, the move likely aims to maximize Lost Soul Aside's player base and sales. The previous implementation of PSN linking negatively impacted PC sales for other PlayStation titles, with God of War Ragnarok seeing significantly fewer Steam players than its predecessor. By removing this barrier, Sony positions Lost Soul Aside for broader success. This decision offers a glimmer of hope for future PlayStation PC releases, suggesting a more flexible approach to platform integration.
