Supposed Nintendo Switch 2 Announcement Date Revealed by Leaker

Nintendo Switch 2: Official Reveal Imminent?

Reliable sources suggest the Nintendo Switch 2 will be officially unveiled on Thursday, January 16th, 2025. This early 2025 reveal strongly indicates a potential first-half release for the highly anticipated console. The timing echoes the original Switch announcement, which also fell on a Thursday in 2016.

The Switch 2's existence has been an open secret for months. Reports indicate mass production began as early as late September or early October 2024, corroborated by numerous hardware leaks. Nintendo itself previously committed to an announcement before March 31st, 2025. NateTheHate, a reputable leaker, confirmed the January 16th date, a claim supported by The Verge's Tom Warren.

Extensive Leaks Precede Official Announcement

While a pre-announcement teaser on social media, similar to the original Switch's rollout, remains a possibility, the sheer volume of leaked information makes a surprise reveal unlikely. The extent of these leaks is unprecedented, with Nintendo even addressing a Switch 2 replica – a rare acknowledgement of product leaks.

Rumors paint a picture of a slightly larger console than the Switch OLED model (approximately 270 x 116 x 14mm) featuring an 8-inch LCD screen. Magnetically attaching Joy-Cons are anticipated, with the right Joy-Con possibly including a new "C" button, its function currently unknown but potentially linked to a rumored mouse-like pointer mode.

Launch Titles Remain Enigmatic

Unlike the hardware details, the Switch 2's launch game lineup remains largely shrouded in mystery. While titles like My Time at Evershine and Bestiario are confirmed, neither is expected to be a day-one release, assuming a first-half 2025 launch. Nintendo will likely leverage at least one or two major first-party titles to drive initial sales.
