Stellar Blade Dev Shift Up Posts Record Year, Sales of PC Version Still Expected to Outsell PS5
Shift Up, the developer behind Stellar Blade, has announced record-breaking financial results for 2024. Stellar Blade generated $43 million in royalties, and the upcoming PC release is projected to surpass PlayStation 5 sales.
Game World Observer reported that Shift Up's 2024 revenue reached $151.4 million, a substantial 30.4% year-on-year increase. A significant portion of this, $43.2 million, stemmed directly from Stellar Blade royalties.
The company anticipates continued success, predicting stronger PC sales than the console version, particularly within the Asian gaming market. Shift Up also plans to unveil its new title, Project Witches, in the first half of 2025. While highly anticipated, this new game is not a Stellar Blade sequel, though the possibility of a future installment in the franchise is under consideration.
Project Witches was initially announced in 2024, shortly after Stellar Blade's PS5 launch, preempting significant demand for a direct sequel.
Stellar Blade, a fast-paced action RPG, casts players as Eve, fighting to reclaim Earth from mysterious invaders. The game achieved a 7/10 rating from IGN and sold over one million copies. While praised for its core action gameplay, IGN's review noted shortcomings in character development, narrative, and RPG mechanics as preventing it from reaching the genre's peak.
