Stardew Valley: A Complete Guide To Enchantments & Weapon Forging
This guide details the Volcano Forge in Stardew Valley, explaining how to enhance tools and weapons using Cinder Shards and various gems. The 1.6 update added significant changes, including new enchantments and the ability to enchant the pan.
Obtaining Cinder Shards:
Cinder Shards, essential for forge functions, are obtained by:
- Mining Cinder Shard nodes (pink-orange specks) in the Volcano Dungeon.
- Enemy drops (Magma Sprite, Magma Duggy, Magma Sparker, False Magma Cap – varying drop rates).
- Fishing ponds with 7+ Stingrays (2-5 shards, 7-9% daily chance).
Cinder Shards are a resource, not gemstones; they cannot be replicated in the Crystalarium.
The Mini-Forge:
After achieving Combat Mastery, craft a Mini-Forge (5 Dragon Teeth, 10 Iron Bars, 10 Gold Bars, 5 Iridium Bars). It functions identically to the Volcano Dungeon forge.
Weapon Forging:
Weapons (up to three times) can be enhanced with gemstones:
- Amethyst: +1 knockback per forge level.
- Aquamarine: +4.6% critical hit chance per level (cumulative).
- Emerald: +2/+3/+2 speed per level (cumulative).
- Jade: +10% critical hit damage per level (cumulative).
- Ruby: +10% damage per level (cumulative).
- Topaz: +1 defense per level (cumulative).
- Diamond: Three random upgrades (10 Cinder Shards).
Best Weapon Upgrades: Emerald and Ruby for damage and speed; Aquamarine or Jade for critical hits; Topaz and Amethyst for defense and knockback.
Unforging Weapons: Place the weapon in the left slot, select the red X to remove all forging (some shards recovered, gemstone lost). Enchantments remain.
Infinity Weapons:
Upgrade Galaxy Sword, Dagger, or Hammer into Infinity Weapons using three Galaxy Souls (20 Cinder Shards per Soul). Forged upgrades and enchantments are retained. Galaxy Souls are obtained via Mr. Qi, dangerous monster drops, or Island Trader.
Enchantments:
Use a Prismatic Shard and 20 Cinder Shards for random enchantments on tools or melee weapons. Re-enchant for a different effect.
Weapon Enchantments: Artful, Bug Killer, Crusader, Vampiric, Haymaker (Bug Killer and Crusader generally most useful).
Innate Enchantments: Use a Dragon Tooth for additional enchantments (Slime Slayer, Crit Power, Attack, Speed; Slime Gatherer, Defense, Weight).
Tool Enchantments: Twelve enchantments, tool-specific (Auto-Hook, Archeologist, Bottomless, Efficient, Fisher, Generous, Master, Powerful, Preserving, Reaching, Shaving, Swift). Best enchantments vary by tool and playstyle.
