Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds: New Features and Mechanics

The Biggest Roster Yet!

Sega and Sonic Team are teaming up to deliver the ultimate kart racing experience. Based on the reveal trailer and reports, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds boasts the largest roster in series history! In a February 12, 2025 PlayStation.blog post, Sega of America's Associate PR Manager, Thalia Piedra, unveiled exciting new mechanics and features. While the trailer focuses primarily on Sonic characters, the official website promises 23 racers at launch, with more to come.

Confirmed racers include series staples Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy, alongside familiar faces from Sonic Riders (Jet, Wave, and Storm), the Deadly Six (Zavok and Zazz), Team Dark (Shadow, Rouge, and E-123 Omega), Dr. Eggman and his creations (Egg Pawn and Metal Sonic), the Chaotix (Vector, Charmy, and Espio), and even Blaze, Silver, Cream, and Big!

Buckle Up for CrossWorlds!

Prepare for a wild ride! Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds introduces "Travel Rings," a unique gameplay mechanic that instantly transports racers between vibrant worlds called "CrossWorlds" during races. These dynamic shifts, as described by Piedra, will "bring dramatic changes to races, transporting players from one world to a completely new location," offering a theme park-like experience with surprising obstacles and stunning scenery.

Expect dynamic tracks inspired by Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, transforming with each lap, demanding adaptability and strategic racing. Get ready to navigate 24 main tracks and 15 fantastical CrossWorlds!

Customize, Conquer, and Collect!

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds offers the most extensive vehicle customization yet! A February 17, 2025 Twitter (X) post showcased deep customization options, including front and rear parts, wheels, body color, tire and cockpit customization, glow effects, and more.

Further enhancing the gameplay are 23 different gadgets to equip and optimize your racing style, along with 45 unique vehicles, including the return of Extreme Gear from Sonic Riders, offering a boost-based hoverboard racing experience. Sonic Creative Officer Takashi Iizuka describes the game as "a great culmination of all the Sonic Racing series games to date."
