Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Release Date Announced

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is slated for a March 2027 theatrical release. Paramount Pictures has officially set the date for March 19, 2027, as reported by Variety, marking a two-year wait for the blue blur's return. Beyond the release date, however, details remain scarce.

This sequel comes as no surprise, considering the phenomenal success of Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The film raked in $218 million domestically and over $420 million worldwide, establishing itself as the highest-grossing Sonic film to date, surpassing the first film's impressive $148 million. This success is particularly noteworthy given the initial controversy surrounding the original Sonic design, which underwent significant alterations during post-production.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 also holds the distinction of being the second highest-grossing video game movie in North America, trailing only the animated Super Mario Bros. Movie, continuing the cinematic rivalry between Nintendo and Sega.

Based on the popular Sega video game series, the films follow Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwartz) as he confronts his nemesis, Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey). Each installment has introduced more characters from the Sonic universe, including Tails (Colleen O'Shaughnessey) and Knuckles (Idris Elba), with Sonic 3 finally bringing in Shadow the Hedgehog (Keanu Reeves).
