Skate Expands Playtesting to Include Console Players

Skate Series Returns: Console Playtest Now Live!

Exciting news for console gamers! The highly anticipated new Skate game, simply titled skate., is now available for playtesting on Xbox and PlayStation consoles. This marks a significant milestone, as previous playtests were exclusively for PC players since mid-2022. After a 15-year hiatus since the last Skate title, console players finally get a chance to experience the series' unique skateboarding gameplay.

The Skate franchise, beloved by its dedicated fanbase, went dormant after Skate 3 in 2010. EA's focus shifted to other genres, but persistent fan demand, fueled by the #Skate4 hashtag, ultimately led to the creation of a dedicated development team and the announcement of skate.. While early access is planned for 2025, this console playtest is a promising step towards that release.

The skate. playtest is accessible through the game's Insider program, requiring registration. A recent video from the development team, while light on specific gameplay details (like the rumored improved replay editor), confirmed the addition of more Black hairstyle options and playfully addressed the "Fall 2024" playtest announcement.

skate. is confirmed as a free-to-play, live-service game set in the fictional city of San Vansterdam. Inspired by locations like San Vanelona and Port Carverton, as well as real-world cities, San Vansterdam is still under development. While a map leak surfaced in 2023, significant changes are likely. Fans can either join the playtest now or patiently await the wider release.

Other Skateboarding Games to Enjoy in the Meantime

While skate. is slated for early access in 2025, delays are always a possibility. Fortunately, several other skateboarding games offer enjoyable gameplay until the new Skate title arrives.
