Silksong Speculations Rage (Again) Because of a Cake
The Hollow Knight community is abuzz with renewed speculation about Hollow Knight: Silksong's release, sparked by a cryptic Twitter post and a rather unusual profile picture. Let's delve into the details fueling this latest wave of anticipation!
The Resurgence of Silksong Hope
A Twitter Post and a Cake – The Perfect Recipe for Speculation?
The speculation frenzy began with William Pellen, a key figure in the game's development, and his activity on Twitter (now X). On January 15th, 2025, he cryptically tweeted, "Something big is coming. Keep your eyes closed tomorrow," a statement many interpreted as a hint at the upcoming Switch 2 announcement on January 16th. The usual Silksong release questions followed, but Pellen's subsequent actions only intensified the speculation.
On the 16th, following the Switch 2 announcement and the reveal of a Nintendo Direct on April 2nd, 2025, Pellen changed his profile picture to a slice of cake. A reverse image search revealed the image belonged to a Bon Appetit article featuring a Brooklyn Blackout Cake recipe, published – significantly – on April 2nd, 2024.
Pellen also commented on the article with "mmmm tasty," prompting a flurry of fan comments connecting the cake to Silksong. One fan even vowed to bake the cake if Silksong news arrived by April 2nd, 2025. Another commented on the cake's "silky texture," cleverly linking it to the game's title.
It's important to note that while Pellen's profile picture is undeniable, there's no definitive proof he authored the cake-related comment. The connection remains circumstantial, leaving room for both excitement and healthy skepticism.
Silksong's Long-Awaited Arrival: A Five-Year Journey
Initially announced on February 14th, 2019, Hollow Knight: Silksong was slated for release on Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. The game, a sequel following Hornet's adventures, has been highly anticipated since its reveal.
Following a soundtrack preview in December 2019, Team Cherry went largely silent for over two years. They broke their silence in February 2022, reassuring fans of the game's ongoing development and promising updates closer to launch. A June 2022 trailer at the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase showcased new gameplay and confirmed the game's inclusion in Game Pass.
While initially expected in the first half of 2023, Team Cherry confirmed a delay in May 2023, citing the game's increased scope and the desire to deliver a high-quality product.
Five years after its initial announcement, the anticipation remains palpable. The community eagerly awaits any news, making even a cake-related Twitter post a potential source of excitement and speculation. Only time will tell if this latest round of speculation bears fruit.
