Shrek 5 has unveiled its new cast in a brand-new teaser trailer, prompting even Movie Sonic to offer some unsolicited design advice.

In a humorous TikTok video, the official Sonic Movie account shared a “how-to” guide for green ogres, showcasing Sonic's own dramatic design evolution from his initially controversial live-action debut to his much-improved redesign.

IGN's exclusive first look at the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie in 2018 was met with mixed reactions, to put it mildly. Fans had strong opinions on his teeth, physique, small eyes, and surprisingly human-like fingers.

Following the negative feedback, director Jeff Fowler redesigned the iconic character, delivering a more faithful and ultimately, much better-received version.

While the reaction to Shrek's new look isn't quite as intensely polarized as Sonic's initial design, Sonic's playful response has entertained fans. Comments included, "You know it's bad when you see the Sonic Movie account giving Shrek 5 advice," and "No way they actually posted this 😭".

Initially announced in 2016, Shrek 5 remained relatively quiet until 2023 when Chris Meledandri, CEO of Illumination, confirmed its active development and hinted at a potential Donkey spin-off. Universal Pictures shifted Shrek 5's release date to December 23, 2026, moving it from the original slot occupied by the Minions 3 release.
