The Samsung 990 Evo Plus is a fantastic drive for both your gaming PC and PS5. It easily surpasses Sony's minimum speed requirements for the PS5, boasting sequential read and write speeds up to 7,250 MB/s and 6,300 MB/s respectively. While not quite as fast as the 990 Pro, it's significantly faster than the standard 990 Evo. The key difference? This is a DRAM-less drive. For PS5 gaming, this makes no difference whatsoever. For PCs, it uses HMB (host memory buffer), borrowing a negligible amount of system RAM—gamers won't notice any performance impact.

The 990 Evo Plus lacks a pre-installed heatsink. However, its new single-sided design is energy-efficient and generates less heat than older SSDs. This means a heatsink is likely unnecessary, and it should work flawlessly in a PS5 without thermal throttling. Adding a heatsink is purely optional, though.
