Rocksteady Struggles After 'Suicide Squad' Setback
Rocksteady Studios, the creator of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, announced further layoffs in late 2024, impacting programmers, artists, and testers. This follows September's layoffs, which halved the testing team's size.
These job cuts reflect the game's poor reception and substantial financial losses—approximately $200 million, according to Warner Bros. With no planned 2025 updates (though servers remain active), the studio faces an uncertain future.
The situation worsened with the early access release, plagued by numerous bugs, server outages, and a significant plot spoiler. Negative reviews from prominent gaming publications and a reported 791% surge in refund requests (per McLuck analytics) further compounded the challenges.
The layoffs weren't limited to Rocksteady; Games Montreal, another Warner Bros. studio, also experienced significant job losses (99 employees) in December. Rocksteady's next project remains unannounced.
