Thronefall: Tower Defense City Builder Launches on Android

The popular real-time strategy game Thronefall, developed by Grizzly Games, is now available for Android. This minimalist title focuses on building and defending your small kingdom. It first arrived on iOS in early May, with Doghowl Games handling the mobile publishing.

Thronefall initially launched on PC via early access in August 2023, with the full version releasing in October 2024. You can try the game for free before deciding to purchase the complete experience for $9.99.

What is the gameplay like in Thronefall?

The core loop shares similarities with games like They Are Billions. Each day begins by expanding your kingdom—constructing mills, mines, houses, and defensive structures such as towers and walls. Once your preparations are complete, you trigger nightfall to start the combat phase.

Every night concludes with the game automatically repairing any destroyed buildings and granting you a gold reward based on how much of your infrastructure remains intact.

Your monarch, the player character, is directly involved in the action. You can rely on your defensive towers and crossbowmen to handle the enemy waves, or you can mount up and engage directly in combat using a bow or spear. Each weapon features its own unique set of special abilities.

The game also offers various gameplay perks. If you prefer a pure tower defense style, you can select Commander Mode, which reduces your hero's damage output and emphasizes your troops and defenses. Conversely, if you enjoy direct combat, you can enhance your monarch's damage and take a more hands-on, hack-and-slash approach.

Is Thronefall Worth Playing?

The game's greatest strength lies in its flexibility. It successfully brings a back-to-basics strategy experience to mobile devices. If you're curious, you can download it for free from the Google Play Store. The full game is available as a single in-app purchase.
