Author : Isaac Feb 22,2025

This Stardew Valley guide details Preserves Jars, a crucial tool for boosting profits from crops and foraged goods. While Kegs and Jelly production often get more attention in late-game strategies, Preserves Jars offer an early-game advantage and remain vital for certain items.

Obtaining Preserves Jars:

The Preserves Jar recipe unlocks at Farming Level 4, requiring 50 Wood, 40 Stone, and 8 Coal – readily available early in the game. Players also receive one for completing the Quality Crops Bundle (or Rare Crops Bundle in remixed games) and may find them in the Prize Machine.

Artisan Goods Production:

Preserves Jars create two types of artisan goods: Jelly and Pickles.

  • Jelly: Made from fruits. Edible fruits yield double the base fruit's energy and health; inedible fruits provide scaled health and energy. The sell price is double the base fruit value plus 50g. Processing time: 2-3 days.
  • Pickles: Made from vegetables, mushrooms, and foraged items (only those with positive energy value when consumed). Edible items yield 1.75x the base item's energy and health; inedible items provide scaled energy and health. The sell price is double the base item value plus 50g. Processing time: 2-3 days.
  • Caviar: Made from Sturgeon Roe. Sell price: 500g. Processing time: 4 days.
  • Aged Roe: Made from any other fish roe. Sell price: 60g + base fish price. Processing time: 2-3 days.

Note: The Artisan profession (Farming Level 10) increases the sale price of all Preserves Jar products by 40%. Item quality doesn't affect the final sell price; use your lowest-quality produce for maximum profit.

Preserves Jars vs. Kegs:

Preserves Jars are faster than Kegs but are most profitable for fruits under 50g and vegetables/forage under 160g. They're essential for processing fish roe and mushrooms, which Kegs cannot handle. High-yield, low-value crops (eggplants, wild berries, corn, tomatoes) are ideal for Preserves Jars.
