Pokémon In-Game Encounters Cause Frustrating Frenzy
A Pokémon player is experiencing unexpected fame—or perhaps infamy—thanks to two persistent NPCs who won't stop calling. A short video showcases the player trapped, their in-game phone incessantly ringing with calls from these overly enthusiastic trainers.
Pokémon Gold and Silver introduced the feature of receiving calls from certain NPCs after battles, offering updates or rematch opportunities. However, this player's game appears to be malfunctioning, caught in an endless loop of calls.
Pokémon fan FodderWadder posted a video showing them cornered in a Pokémon Center. First, Wade the Bug Catcher calls, detailing his Caterpie training and a Pidgey encounter. Before the player can react, Youngster Joey calls, requesting a rematch on Route 30.
The relentless calls continue. Joey calls again, repeating his previous message, immediately followed by Wade, presumably repeating his. This cycle repeats, trapping the player.
The cause of this incessant calling remains unclear. While Youngster Joey and the call system are known for repetitive calls, this is extreme. FodderWadder suspects a save file glitch. Other players, however, found the situation humorous, suggesting the NPCs simply enjoy chatting.
Although players can delete phone numbers, the game automatically answers calls. FodderWadder eventually escaped the onslaught, but the process proved challenging, requiring careful timing to access the menu, delete the numbers, and finally leave the Pokémon Center. The experience, however, has left them hesitant to register new numbers, fearing a repeat of the never-ending phone call loop.
