POE 2 Citadel Locations Revealed!
Path of Exile 2: A Comprehensive Guide to Finding Citadels
After conquering the main campaign and completing Acts 1-3 on Cruel difficulty, players unlock the Endgame and the Atlas of Worlds. Navigating the Atlas map presents various challenges, including locating elusive Citadels. This guide provides strategies for efficiently finding these crucial endgame objectives.
What are Citadels and Why are they Important?
Citadels are unique map nodes in PoE 2, existing in three types: Iron, Copper, and Stone. Each houses a powerful boss (repurposed campaign bosses with significant buffs) and rewards players with a Crisis Fragment upon defeat. These fragments are essential keys to unlock the Burning Monolith and its pinnacle boss, the Arbiter of Ash, completing the "Pinnacle of Flame" quest.
- Iron Citadel: Count Geonor (Act 1 boss). Appears as a large city with black walls.
- Copper Citadel: Jamanra, the Abomination (Act 2 boss). Resembles a large encampment.
- Stone Citadel: Doryani (Act 3 boss). Looks like a stone pyramid.
Accessing a Citadel requires a Waystone of at least Tier 15. Each Citadel attempt is a one-life run; failure means you must find another. Citadels offer exceptional loot, making them worthwhile despite their single-attempt nature.
Locating Citadels in PoE 2
The 0.1.1 update significantly improves Citadel visibility. A prominent light beacon now marks their location, visible even through the Fog of War.
If Citadels remain hidden, employ these strategies:
- Strategic Pathing: Travel in a straight line to reveal maximum Fog of War and expand your Atlas view.
- Lost Tower Exploration: Prioritize Lost Towers; clearing them reveals a significant area, potentially uncovering nearby Citadels.
- Biome Targeting: Citadel types tend to spawn in specific biomes:
- Iron Citadels: Grass or Forest
- Copper Citadels: Desert
- Stone Citadels: Coastal areas
- Avoid Clustering: Citadels rarely cluster. After finding one, explore a completely different direction on the Atlas.
With the 0.1.1 update's improved visibility, Citadels should be easily spotted within a few screens of revealed map areas. If not, revert to the straight-line pathing strategy to uncover their beacons.
