Okami 2: Kamiya's Sequels Wish Unveiled After 18 Years
Hideki Kamiya, renowned game director behind classics like Okami, Devil May Cry, and Bayonetta, embarks on a new chapter. After a 20-year tenure at PlatinumGames, he's launched Clovers Inc., a new studio dedicated to fulfilling a long-held dream: an Okami sequel.
A Sequel 18 Years in the Making
Kamiya's passion for Okami is well-documented. He felt the original's narrative was unfinished, a sentiment shared by collaborator Ikumi Nakamura. Years of requests to Capcom for a sequel went unanswered, until now. With Clovers Inc., and Capcom as publisher, his ambition is finally realized.
Clovers Inc.: A New Beginning
Clovers Inc., a joint venture with former PlatinumGames colleague Kento Koyama, pays homage to Clover Studio, the birthplace of Okami and Viewtiful Joe. Kamiya emphasizes the importance of shared creative vision, not sheer size. The studio, currently comprised of 25 employees, prioritizes passion and a unified development philosophy.
Many Clovers Inc. team members are former PlatinumGames employees who share Kamiya and Koyama's vision.
Departure from PlatinumGames
Kamiya's departure from PlatinumGames, a company he co-founded, surprised many. While he remains tight-lipped about specifics, he hints at philosophical differences regarding game development. The opportunity to build Clovers Inc. from the ground up, alongside Koyama, and pursue his creative vision for Okami 2, fueled his decision.
A Softer Side?
Kamiya's online persona is known for its bluntness. However, he recently issued a public apology to a fan he previously offended, demonstrating a newfound sensitivity and appreciation for his fanbase. He's even been seen unblocking previously blocked users and engaging more positively with fans online.
The Okami sequel represents more than just a game; it's the culmination of a long-held dream and a testament to Kamiya's unwavering dedication to his craft.
