Obsidian RPG Avowed Can Hit 60FPS on Xbox Series X
Obsidian's Avowed: 60fps on Xbox Series X Confirmed, Series S Locked at 30fps
Avowed, Obsidian Entertainment's highly anticipated RPG, will achieve a frame rate of up to 60 frames per second (fps) on the Xbox Series X, according to game director Carrie Patel in a MinnMax interview. While Patel didn't elaborate on specifics, the confirmation marks a significant detail for players. The Xbox Series S version, as previously announced, will remain capped at 30fps.
Whether Avowed will offer selectable graphics and performance modes—a common feature allowing players to prioritize either visual fidelity or frame rate—remains unconfirmed. The possibility exists that 60fps is the default setting on the Series X, or that a dedicated performance mode will be included.
Avowed's release date presents a curious pricing structure. Early access begins February 13th for those purchasing the premium edition ($89.99), while standard edition owners ($69.99) must wait until February 18th. This staggered release, a growing trend among publishers, has already been abandoned by some, such as Ubisoft.
Set within the Pillars of Eternity universe, Avowed is a first-person fantasy RPG emphasizing player choice and consequence. Players will unravel a narrative brimming with war, mystery, and intrigue, forging alliances and rivalries along their journey.
IGN's final preview lauded Avowed's engaging dialogue, freedom of player agency, and overall enjoyable gameplay, stating simply, "Avowed is just a lot of fun."
