Nintendo Switch Pro Unveiled with Enhanced Features
The Nintendo Switch 2: A Closer Look at Size and Dimensions
The recently released Nintendo Switch 2 announcement trailer reveals a noticeably larger console than its predecessor. While Nintendo hasn't released official dimensions, we can offer estimations based on a CES 2025 Switch 2 mockup from peripheral designer Genki, remarkably accurate to the trailer's depiction.
Switch 2 Screen Size:
Our estimations suggest an 8-inch screen (diagonal measurement, excluding bezels), aligning with earlier rumors. This translates to approximately 177mm wide and 99mm tall. This represents a nearly 30% diagonal increase and a 66% larger area compared to the original Switch's 6.2-inch screen. The increase is even more substantial against the Switch Lite (45% diagonal, 111% area) and the Switch OLED (14% diagonal, 30% area). While larger than the original Switch OLED and the standard Steam Deck (7-inch screens), the Switch 2's estimated screen size still surpasses even the Steam Deck OLED's 7.4-inch display by 8% diagonally and 11% in area.
Overall Console Size:
Based on our analysis of the Genki mockup and the trailer, the Switch 2's estimated dimensions are approximately 265mm long and 115mm tall. This is roughly a 25% increase compared to the original Switch (239mm x 102mm), significantly larger than the Switch Lite (61% larger), and slightly smaller than the Steam Deck (12% smaller). Depth is estimated to be similar to the original Switch.
Joy-Con Size:
The trailer suggests Joy-Con width remains similar, but with increased height. Our estimations point to 32mm wide and 115mm tall for the new Joy-Cons – the same width as the originals (excluding the slot system), and 13mm taller (approximately a 13% increase).
Screen Unit Size:
Subtracting the Joy-Con dimensions from the overall console size, we estimate the Switch 2 screen unit to be approximately 200mm long and 115mm tall (a 31% increase over the original Switch). This size comfortably accommodates the estimated 8-inch screen, suggesting relatively slim bezels.
It's crucial to remember these are estimations. Official dimensions from Nintendo will provide definitive confirmation. However, based on the Genki mockup's accuracy, these figures offer a strong indication of the Switch 2's size increase. Expect a console significantly larger than its predecessor.
