Nicolas Cage has issued a strong warning against the use of artificial intelligence in acting, declaring that actors who allow AI to influence their performances are heading towards "a dead end." He argues that AI, being incapable of reflecting the human condition, poses a significant threat to the integrity of artistic expression.

As reported by Variety, Cage, accepting his Best Actor Saturn Award for his role in Dream Scenario, used his acceptance speech to express his concerns. He emphasized the importance of human creativity and emotional depth in acting, contrasting it with the limitations of AI. He stated that allowing AI to manipulate even a small aspect of a performance would ultimately lead to a prioritization of financial gain over artistic integrity and truth.

Cage's speech highlighted the crucial role of art in reflecting the complexities of the human experience, a task he believes AI is fundamentally incapable of performing. He warned against a future where AI dictates artistic expression, resulting in a homogenized and emotionally vacant product, devoid of genuine human response. He urged actors to protect themselves from AI interference, advocating for authentic and honest self-expression.

Cage's stance echoes the concerns of other actors, particularly in the voice acting field where AI-generated performances are increasingly prevalent, even in major video game productions. Several voice actors, including Ned Luke (Grand Theft Auto 5) and Doug Cockle (The Witcher), have voiced similar concerns, highlighting the potential for AI to undermine actors' livelihoods.

The filmmaking community is also divided on the issue. While director Tim Burton expressed concerns about AI-generated art, others, like Zack Snyder, advocate for embracing AI technology in filmmaking.
