"MK1: Homelander and Omni-Man to Feature Unique Movesets"
During Gamescom, Mortal Kombat co-founder Ed Boon shed light on how the upcoming game, Mortal Kombat 1, plans to differentiate between the characters Omni-Man and Homelander. In an interview with IGN, Boon addressed fans' concerns about the potential overlap in combat styles between these two powerful characters.
Ed Boon Confirms Homelander and Omni-Man Will Play Differently
Boon emphasized that the development team at NetherRealm Studios has been given the creative freedom to explore various ideas for these characters. However, they are committed to ensuring that Homelander and Omni-Man feel distinctly different to play. Boon stated, “Obviously, we could do anything with the characters, but I don’t think we’re going to have both Homelander and Omni-Man have heat vision or something like that.” This approach aims to avoid the pitfall of having both characters exhibit similar Superman-esque abilities, which could lead to repetitive gameplay.
Furthermore, Boon revealed that the team has drawn inspiration from the unique actions and abilities showcased by these heroes in their respective shows. These inspirations have been transformed into distinct Fatalities for each character. Boon assured fans, “They’re definitely going to play differently. The main attacks are going to really differentiate them, but we’re definitely aware of the assumption that some people were making on, ‘Oh, they’re just going to be the same characters.'” This commitment to differentiation promises a fresh and engaging experience for players when Mortal Kombat 1 launches.
