MH Wilds Beta Test Extension Considered After Sudden PSN Outage

Monster Hunter Wilds is exploring a 24-hour extension for Open Beta Test 2 following a significant PlayStation Network outage. This article details the potential extension and the weekend's events.
A Full Day of Downtime for PS5 Players
Monster Hunter Wilds (MH Wilds) is considering a one-day extension to Open Beta Test 2 due to the PlayStation Network's 24-hour outage starting February 7th at 6 PM EST. This rendered all online console games, including the MH Wilds beta, inaccessible. Service was restored around 8 PM EST, according to the official NA X (Twitter) support account.
While the exact timing of the potential 24-hour extension hasn't been announced, it's expected to compensate for lost playtime. This could occur anytime between the end of Beta Test 2 Part 2 and February 27th, the day before the game's official release. Part 1 of Beta Test 2 concluded, and Part 2 begins February 13th at 7 PM PT. Players can anticipate resuming gameplay, and possibly encountering the amusing low-poly character bug.
The Hilarious Low-Poly Bug Returns
Capcom acknowledges that the beta build is outdated and contains bugs, including the infamous low-poly character glitch. This glitch, caused by texture loading issues, transforms characters, Palicos, and monsters into blocky, low-resolution versions.
Rather than frustration, this bug has generated amusement among fans, who have shared their low-poly encounters on social media. Some even hope the game will acknowledge this quirky glitch in the future. While MH Wilds developers are aware and appreciate the humorous response, they encourage players to experience the game's full visual fidelity with appropriate hardware upon official release.
Monster Hunter Wilds, the latest installment in the acclaimed series, introduces an open-world setting – the Forbidden Lands. Players take on the role of a Hunter investigating this mysterious region and its apex predator, the White Wraith. This highly anticipated action-RPG launches on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on February 28th, 2025.
PlayStation Network's Most Recent Major Outage
PlayStation attributed the outage to an "operational issue" and apologized for the inconvenience. PlayStation Plus subscribers will receive five extra days of service as compensation.
However, the lack of communication during the outage drew criticism, evoking concerns reminiscent of the 2011 PSN outage caused by a hacker attack. That incident resulted in a three-and-a-half-week service disruption and the compromise of approximately 77 million accounts. In contrast to the recent event, Sony provided users with regular updates during the 2011 outage, outlining the situation and the investigation process.
