The Parabolic Microphone is classified as Optional Equipment in Phasmophobia, which means it won't automatically appear in your loadout. To get your hands on this essential tool, you'll need to reach specific levels and make purchases through the in-game Shop.
Like other equipment in Phasmophobia, the Parabolic Microphone comes in three tiers, each offering improved quality and reliability:
- Tier 1: Unlocked at Level 7, you can purchase and add it to your loadout from the Shop.
- Tier 2: Available at Level 31, this upgrade will set you back $3,000.
- Tier 3: Unlock this at Level 72 for $5,000.
Once unlocked, you can choose any tier of the Parabolic Microphone to include in your loadout, with the flexibility to add up to two, regardless of your party size. Keep in mind, though, that if you decide to Prestige, you'll have to unlock each tier again as your character resets to Level 1.

To use the Parabolic Microphone during your ghost-hunting missions, you must first include it in your loadout via the Shop portal, ensuring it's available in your truck upon arrival. Note that in Challenge Mode, the preset loadout might not include the Parabolic Microphone.
Once you're at the location, grab the Parabolic Microphone from the equipment wall in the truck. Turn it on using the appropriate button. If you're equipped with the Tier 3 version, you'll also benefit from a radar screen that helps pinpoint the direction of the sounds.

The Parabolic Microphone is especially useful on medium and large maps in Phasmophobia, where traditional methods like temperature gauges or EMF Readers might fall short. It allows you to detect noises made by the ghost, such as objects being thrown, doors being moved, or the ghost's voice itself. This can significantly aid in pinpointing the ghost's location.
Moreover, it can help you complete Optional Objectives that require capturing the ghost's voice. Certain ghosts, like the Deogen or Banshee, emit unique sounds that can only be detected with the Parabolic Microphone, making it a crucial tool for identifying these specific entities.
That wraps up the essentials of using the Parabolic Microphone in Phasmophobia. For the latest guides, news, and how to unlock all achievements and trophies, be sure to check out The Escapist.
