Stun the Monster
Ebony Odogaron’s speed is its most dangerous trait. It moves so quickly that many players struggle to land consistent hits or even defend themselves. A great way to slow it down is by stunning it mid-combat. Look for a Flashfly nearby—triggering it can momentarily daze the monster. Alternatively, craft and use Flash Pods to create your own opportunities to immobilize this swift predator.
Bring Teammates
Taking on Ebony Odogaron solo is no easy feat. Much of your time may be spent dodging rather than attacking. To avoid this, send out SOS signals to call in allies. While other players might join the fight, NPCs are also available and surprisingly effective. They act as shields, drawing the monster’s attention away from you. When it targets you, focus on evading until it shifts focus back to them.
Pull Down Entangled Rocks
During the battle, Ebony Odogaron will enter an area where Entangled Rocks hang above. Use your slinger to shoot and drop them, stunning the boss for several seconds. Note that this tactic only works once per fight. You can supplement this with Pitfall Traps and Shock Traps to immobilize the monster two additional times during the encounter.
Beware of Dragonblight
In addition to its physical assaults, Ebony Odogaron can afflict you with Dragonblight. While it doesn’t deal direct damage, it significantly hampers your offensive capabilities by preventing elemental and status effect buildup. Carry Nulberries to cure the condition, or equip gear with Level 3 Dragon Resistance or Blight Resistance to mitigate its effects.
Inflict Paralysis
Paralysis is one of the most effective tools against Ebony Odogaron. This status effect temporarily halts the monster’s movement, giving you a critical window to strike. If the beast is standing over roots when knocked down, it may become entangled, further extending your damage window and improving your chances of success.
Aim for the Head
The head is Ebony Odogaron’s primary weak point, marked by a 3-star weakness rating. Targeting it allows for maximum damage output, but it also puts you in harm’s way. If you prefer to stay safer, aim for the forelegs or tail instead. These areas may not offer the same damage potential, but they provide opportunities to break limbs and control the monster’s movements.
How to Capture Ebony Odogaron
To capture Ebony Odogaron, deploy either a Pitfall Trap or a Shock Trap. However, ensure the monster’s health is reduced to 20% or below before attempting the capture. Otherwise, the tranquilizer won’t take effect, and the beast will soon break free, forcing you to resume the fight.

Monster Hunter Wilds is now available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms. Put these strategies to the test and prove your skill against one of the game’s fastest and fiercest foes: Ebony Odogaron.
