Marvel Rivals Rank Reset Reversed Amid Controversy
Marvel Rivals Reverses Mid-Season Rank Reset Decision Amidst Fan Backlash
In a recent turn of events, Marvel Rivals has decided to backtrack on their proposed mid-season player rank reset following widespread fan discontent. The game's official X (formerly Twitter) account announced this reversal in their latest Dev Talk 11, focusing on seasonal rank adjustments.
The controversy began when Marvel Rivals shared their plans in Dev Talk 10, which included a rank reset that would see players drop down four divisions. This update was met with significant pushback from the community, who felt that such resets every 45 days—or half-season—would be discouraging, particularly for those striving to advance in the ranks.
Responding to the feedback, Marvel Rivals confirmed in Dev Talk 11 that they are abandoning the mid-season rank reset. Players will now retain their scores and ranks from the first half of the season. However, the end-of-season rank reset will still occur, with players dropping down six divisions.
New Heroes and Ongoing Updates
Despite the U-turn on the rank reset, Marvel Rivals is moving forward with other planned updates. The much-anticipated addition of Human Torch and The Thing will expand the game's roster to 39 heroes. NetEase Games has confirmed that two new characters will be introduced each season, which spans three months.
The rewards system remains unchanged for players reaching Gold rank and above, including a free Invisible Woman costume for those at Gold rank. Players at Grandmaster rank and higher will receive Crests of Honor. At the end of the season, new rewards will be available for Gold rank players, including another free costume and Crests of Honor for those at Grandmaster and above.
While balance adjustments are expected post mid-season update, specific details on these changes have yet to be disclosed.
Community Engagement and Support
The swift response to the community's backlash showcases Marvel Rivals' commitment to their player base. Within hours of announcing the controversial rank reset in Dev Talk 10, the developers issued Dev Talk 11 to address the concerns directly.
Marvel Rivals emphasized their dedication to enhancing the gaming experience, stating, "We strive to make Marvel Rivals the best game it can be, and the community is the driving force behind this mission! Your engagement and support mean the world to us, and we're excited to continue this journey together!"
The upcoming Marvel Rivals mid-season update is scheduled for February 21, 2025. The game is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For the latest updates and news, visit our Marvel Rivals page.
