Marvel Rivals Dev Says It's Feeling Social Media Pressure to 'Keep the Game as Exciting as It Has Been Since December,' Announced Big Season 3 Shake-Up
NetEase Games is making significant changes to the post-launch roadmap for Marvel Rivals, aiming to keep the game fresh and engaging for its player base. The company plans to shorten the duration of seasons from three months to two, promising to introduce at least one new hero every month. This major shift in the content release schedule was hinted at during the Marvel Rivals Season 2 Dev Vision Vol. 5 video, which detailed the upcoming Season 2 launch on April 11, featuring the new Vanguard, Emma Frost. Additionally, Ultron is set to join the roster mid-season, with his class to be revealed closer to his release. These updates are designed to keep the excitement high among fans, with new heroes bringing unique abilities to the game.
In the Dev Vision video, Marvel Rivals' creative director Guangyun Chen emphasized the team's commitment to delivering continuous fun and engagement. Chen noted that social media feedback has added pressure to maintain the game's initial thrill since its launch in December. The goal is to keep the audience's excitement alive, similar to the opening months, by exploring new modes and introducing a diverse roster of characters. NetEase plans to adjust its systems to accommodate this increased content flow, with more details to be shared before Season 3.
Just hours before this announcement, NetEase revealed details about Marvel Rivals Season 2, which will transition from a vampire takeover theme to a new storyline centered around the Hellfire Gala. This shift promises new outfits, maps, and characters, with further information to be released in the coming weeks.
Marvel Rivals enjoyed a stellar launch in December, amassing 10 million players in just three days. Available on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, the game saw an impressive peak of 480,990 concurrent players on Steam. Season 1 in January further boosted its popularity, reaching 644,269 concurrent players and ranking as the 15th most-played game on Valve's platform. However, concurrent player numbers have been declining, prompting these roadmap changes. Despite this, Marvel Rivals remains a top-played game on Steam, and the upcoming Season 2 and Season 3 launches are expected to reinvigorate the player base.
