For those who grew up with Mario platformers, Luigi is the quintessential Player 2, often overshadowed by his more famous twin, Mario. Yet, Luigi has carved out his own niche, particularly in the ghost-hunting Luigi's Mansion series. Luigi’s Mansion 3 (2019)

Luigi's first starring role on the Switch came with Luigi’s Mansion 3, the third installment in his solo ghostbusting series. In this game, Luigi teams up with his green gooey clone and Professor E. Gadd to battle ghosts and rescue his friends from King Boo’s haunted hotel.

Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD (2024)

Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD is a remastered version of the 2013 Nintendo 3DS game Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon. In this sequel, Luigi explores the haunted mansions of Evershade Valley to capture King Boo and save his brother once again.

Mario & Luigi: Brothership (2024)

While not exclusively a Luigi game, Mario & Luigi: Brothership places both brothers on equal footing. This marks the first release in the Mario & Luigi series since Paper Jam in 2014. Players control both brothers as they navigate puzzles and platforming challenges to restore the kingdom of Concordia.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (2017)

Luigi was first playable on the Switch in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. He's a middleweight racer with a balanced stat distribution, slightly favoring speed and handling. His iconic appearance in an ad for the original Wii U version led to the famous Luigi Death Stare meme.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle (2017)

In the tactical RPG Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, Luigi and Rabbid Luigi, a Rabbid who mimics Luigi's style and behavior, are available as party members in this Nintendo-Ubisoft collaboration.

Mario Tennis Aces (2018)

Luigi serves as one of the 16 playable launch characters in Mario Tennis Aces. Known for his balanced attributes in Mario sports games, Luigi's special shot, the Pipe Cannon, launches him into the air for a powerful spike.

Super Mario Party (2018)

As one of 20 playable characters in Super Mario Party, Luigi continues his tradition of appearing alongside Mario in every Mario Party game, including this first release for the Switch, which is also Nintendo’s ninth best-selling game on the platform, according to the company.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (2018)

Luigi is an unlockable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, having appeared in all five Smash games. According to LumiRank’s 2025 tier list, compiled from 93 ranked Smash players, Luigi ranks as an A+-tier fighter and the 18th best overall.

New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe (2019)

Luigi is playable in the platformer New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, an enhanced version of the Wii U game that includes the expansion New Super Luigi U. In this expansion, Luigi takes the lead with his higher jump, remixed levels, and a 100-second timer per level.

Super Mario Maker 2 (2019)

Alongside Mario, Toad, and Toadette, Luigi is one of four playable characters in Super Mario Maker 2. This level-building platformer lets players craft their own Mario levels using assets from various Mario games.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury (2021)

In Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, like its Wii U predecessor, the game can be played entirely as Luigi, who has a slightly higher jump and less traction, giving him a 'floaty' and 'slippery' feel compared to Mario.

Mario Golf: Super Rush (2021)

Luigi joins the roster in Mario Golf: Super Rush as one of 22 playable characters. With decent control and excellent speed, he's well-suited for the new Speed Golf mode. His special shot, the Ice Flower Freeze, creates a hazardous frozen area on impact.

Mario Party Superstars (2021)

Luigi returns in Mario Party Superstars, the second Mario Party game on the Switch. Unlike Super Mario Party, Superstars is a collection of classic minigames, boards, and mechanics from the series' past.

Luigi is one of 16 playable characters in Mario Strikers: Battle League Football, the latest in the Mario soccer/football series. Known for his balanced skills, Luigi excels in technique, aiding in dribbling, curving shots, and accurate shooting.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope (2022)

Luigi and Rabbid Luigi return in the tactical sequel Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, where Luigi is classified as a Sneak Attacker due to his ranged weaponry and lower health.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder (2023)

In the latest 2D Mario platformer, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Luigi is a playable alternative to Mario, with the only difference being aesthetic as both characters play identically.

Super Mario Party Jamboree (2024)

Luigi is playable in Super Mario Party Jamboree, the largest and arguably best game in Nintendo's party series. Additionally, Luigi features in the new Buddy mechanic, potentially changing dice rolls to 10s.
