Described as a detective drama in the vein of True Detective and Slow Horses, Lanterns follows Jordan and Stewart as they investigate a murder that unravels into a far-reaching conspiracy. The series is officially part of James Gunn's DC Universe, alongside projects like Creature Commandos and the upcoming films Superman: Legacy and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
Developed by Damon Lindelof (Lost), Chris Mundy, and Tom King, Lanterns will adopt a darker, more grounded tone. Gunn himself describes it as "very grounded, very believable, very real," promising a unique take on the Green Lantern mythos.
Chandler, known for Friday Night Lights, portrays an older Hal Jordan, while Aaron Pierre (Rebel Ridge) takes on the role of John Stewart. The series is aiming for a 2026 premiere, coinciding with the release of the Supergirl movie.
