Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Won't Have Denuvo DRM
Warhorse Studios Confirms: Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Launches DRM-Free
Medieval action-RPG sequel, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2), will not include any Digital Rights Management (DRM) software, the developer has confirmed. This announcement follows persistent rumors and fan inquiries suggesting otherwise.
Warhorse Studios' PR head, Tobias Stolz-Zwilling, directly addressed the misinformation during a recent Twitch stream. He stated unequivocally that KCD2 will launch completely DRM-free, emphasizing that the studio never confirmed the use of Denuvo or any other DRM system. He appealed to fans to cease inquiries on this topic, stating that any information contrary to this official statement is inaccurate.
The absence of DRM is likely welcome news to many gamers. DRM, and Denuvo in particular, has been frequently criticized for potential performance issues and negative impacts on gameplay. While serving as anti-piracy measures, Denuvo's implementation has sometimes led to reported problems with game stability and accessibility. Denuvo's product manager, Andreas Ullmann, has acknowledged this negative perception, attributing it to misinformation and confirmation bias.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is set to release in February 2025 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game continues the story of Henry, a blacksmith's apprentice, in medieval Bohemia, following a devastating event in his village. Those who contributed at least $200 to the game's Kickstarter campaign will receive a free copy.
