NetEase's post-apocalyptic survival game, Once Human, launched on PC to impressive initial numbers, reaching a peak concurrent player count of 230,000 on Steam. This strong showing also secured it the seventh spot on the top sellers list and fifth place among the most played games. Further updates are planned, including a PvP mode pitting the Mayflies and Rosetta factions against each other, and a new PvE area in a northern mountain region featuring fresh challenges and enemies. Set in a world ravaged by a catastrophic event leading to supernatural occurrences, Once Human is a highly anticipated title from NetEase.

Despite this successful PC launch, and the game's planned September mobile release, NetEase has surprisingly delayed the mobile launch. However, Once Human maintains its strong position on the Steam charts.

A Cause for Concern? The 230,000 figure represents a peak player count. The average player count may be significantly lower, and a post-launch drop-off from this peak could be a warning sign for NetEase, especially considering the game's initial Steam wishlist count was over 300,000.

While NetEase is a mobile gaming giant, its foray into the PC market with Once Human represents a significant shift. Although the game boasts impressive graphics and gameplay, a rapid shift in primary audience might prove challenging.

Regardless of the initial PC player count fluctuations, the mobile release of Once Human remains highly anticipated. While you wait, check out our list of the best mobile games of 2024 (so far) and our list of the most anticipated mobile games of the year for other exciting titles.
