How to Find the Hill Troll in Rune Slayer
Reaching max level in Rune Slayer often leads adventurers to the formidable Hill Troll—a rewarding foe offering both substantial XP and valuable early endgame loot. But finding this behemoth is the first challenge. This guide reveals the Hill Troll's location and provides strategies for conquering it.
Hill Troll Location in Rune Slayer
The Hill Troll resides within a cave nestled on the mountainside in Bahlgar. The easiest access point is via the Lakeshire elevator. Descend to Bahlgar as you would to fight Beastmen, but instead of jumping down to them, hug the mountain's wall. Pass two platinum deposits and scan the mountain's side; you'll spot the cave entrance. Mounting your steed is recommended for an easier jump into the opening. While it may seem tricky initially, it becomes routine with practice. See our GIF for a visual guide (we even joined a group battle!).

Hill Troll – Strategy, Loot, and Quests
Despite its intimidating appearance, the Hill Troll is a relatively manageable mini-boss, and you'll likely fight it repeatedly. Never engage solo. Form a group (at least two players) as many others farm this location. The Troll respawns every 90 seconds after defeat.

The Hill Troll attacks with a powerful, slow-moving pillar. Most attacks are parryable or blockable, except for its overhead slam—evade this stun attack. Consistent damage will stagger the Troll. Warrior class players can effectively stun it with a well-timed counter. While rare equipment drops are possible, prioritize farming Troll Hides and Heads. Hides are crucial for crafting decent endgame gear, bridging the gap to tougher bosses like the Mother Spider.

Troll Heads are quest items for the repeatable Hodor quest. Hourly, you can trade a Troll Head to Hodor (near the cave) for potentially powerful gear. Combine Troll farming with this quest for maximum rewards.
Can You Tame the Hill Troll in Rune Slayer?
No. Even for Beast Tamer Archers, taming the Hill Troll is impossible. Its size and mini-boss status make it unsuitable as a pet. Stick to more manageable creatures like the Mud Crab.
