Hades-Inspired Roguelike Emerges
Rogue Loops: A Hades-Inspired Roguelike with a Twist
The upcoming indie roguelike, Rogue Loops, is generating buzz with its striking resemblance to Hades, particularly in its art style and core gameplay loop. However, Rogue Loops introduces a unique mechanic that sets it apart. While a release date hasn't been officially announced (currently slated for Q1 2025), a free Steam demo allows players to experience the game firsthand.
The game features a recurring dungeon with randomized loot and ability upgrades, viewed from a top-down perspective. This echoes the structure of popular roguelikes like Hades. But Rogue Loops adds a compelling twist: ability upgrades are paired with distinct downsides. These downsides, similar in concept to Hades' Chaos Gates, can significantly impact gameplay. Unlike Hades, however, these "curses" in Rogue Loops may have more pronounced and varied effects, potentially lasting the entire playthrough.
The narrative centers around a family trapped in a deadly time loop. Players navigate five floors of dungeons, battling unique enemies and bosses. Each run offers opportunities to unlock procedurally generated upgrades, creating diverse character builds through a system of buffs and debuffs.
While a precise release date remains elusive, the Steam page indicates a launch in the first quarter of 2025. Until then, interested players can enjoy the free demo, which grants access to the game's initial floor. Numerous other roguelikes, including Dead Cells and Hades 2, offer satisfying alternatives in the interim.
