FF7 Remake Part 3 Will Again Release on PS5 First, Other Platforms Later
Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3: PS5 Launch Confirmed, Multi-Platform Release Planned
The highly anticipated final installment of the FF7 Remake trilogy will debut on the PlayStation 5, according to producers Yoshinori Kitase and director Naoki Hamaguchi. This confirmation, revealed during a January 23, 2025 interview with 4Gamer, alleviates concerns among PlayStation fans following the staggered releases of previous installments.
PS5 Launch Assured
Kitase directly addressed concerns about the release pattern of FF7 Remake and FF7 Rebirth, stating definitively, "No, you can rest assured about the next one (FF7 Remake Part 3)." While the PS5 is nearing the midpoint of its lifecycle, the possibility of a PS6 release before the entire FF7 Remake trilogy concludes remains uncertain.
Release Date Still Under Wraps
Square Enix remains tight-lipped about the release date. However, Hamaguchi offered a positive development update in a January 23, 2025 Famitsu interview: "It’s going very well...We are progressing without any delay from the schedule we planned when we launched the remake project, so we hope you will look forward to it." Development reportedly commenced alongside FF7 Rebirth, gaining momentum post-release in February 2024. The utilization of existing assets and a completed story outline suggests a potentially imminent release. Kitase also expressed satisfaction with the completed storyline, hinting at a fan-pleasing conclusion.
Timed Exclusivity Expected
A March 6, 2024 Washington Post report indicated PlayStation secured timed exclusivity for the entire FF7 Remake trilogy. Following the precedent set by previous installments (one year for FF7 Remake on PS4, six months for FF7 Remake Intergrade on PS5, and a similar period for FF7 Rebirth), a PS5 exclusive launch for Part 3, followed by a multi-platform release, is highly probable.
Square Enix's Multi-Platform Shift
Despite the positive reception of the FF7 Remake series, Square Enix's March 31, 2024 financial report revealed declining sales in its HD titles. In response, the company announced an aggressive multi-platform strategy encompassing Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms. This shift suggests future Square Enix titles, including potential future installments, may reach a wider audience beyond PlayStation.
