Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake: Beginner's Guide
For fans of classic JRPGs, *Dragon Quest III: HD-2D Remake* offers a nostalgic journey back to the roots of the beloved franchise. However, its old-school difficulty can be challenging, so here are some tips to help you embark on your quest to defeat Baramos.
Be Mindful of the Personality Test
When you start the game, you'll encounter a series of questions from "She Who Watches Over All." These questions might seem mysterious at first, but they play a crucial role in determining your character's personality. This personality influences your stat growth, significantly impacting your Hero's development. While you can alter personalities with specific accessories, it's often simpler to restart and retake the quiz to achieve your desired outcome. If you're aiming for the best, opt for a female Hero to get the "Vamp" personality, which offers the most advantageous stat boosts.
Build Your Party
In Aliahan, you'll visit Patty's Party Planning Place, where Patty will suggest forming your party. However, it's advisable to bypass her and head to the second floor. Here, you can speak to the man at the counter to create a custom party with unique classes not available downstairs. Even if you prefer Patty's suggestions, assembling your team on the second floor lets you allocate stats and shape their personalities, resulting in stronger party members. Regardless of your choices, ensure you include a Priest for essential healing magic.
Get the Boomerang and Thorn Whip
Early in *Dragon Quest III: HD-2D Remake*, acquiring powerful weapons is crucial due to their high cost. Focus on obtaining the Boomerang and the Thorn Whip. You can find the Boomerang in a chest on the third floor of Dreamer's Tower. The Thorn Whip is available in Aliahan at the bottom of the well; give two Mini Medals to Morgan Minimann to claim it. You can gather four Mini Medals early on—two in Aliahan and two in Dreamer's Tower. These weapons are valuable because they can hit multiple enemies simultaneously, making them ideal for the Hero and a strength-focused character like a Warrior or Martial Artist.
Switch the Party to Follow Orders
While many modern RPGs allow full control over party actions, *Dragon Quest III: HD-2D Remake* defaults to AI control. To enhance your combat strategy, switch your party's behavior to "Follow Orders" via the Tactics menu during battles. This simple change will give you the ability to command your party members directly, which can be crucial in intense fights.
Have a Supply of Chimaera Wings
Early encounters in the game can be overwhelming, with enemies capable of dealing significant damage. Fast travel isn't available until you unlock the Zoom spell, typically at level 8 for the Hero. Until then, keep a stock of Chimaera Wings handy. These items, costing just 25 gold coins each, enable you to teleport to previously visited locations, even from within dungeons. They're essential for saving time and ensuring the safety of your party when they're low on health.
*Dragon Quest III: HD-2D Remake* is available on PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
